Video Guide to Cheap Notebook Computers

Acer Aspire One Notebook Computer

Looking for a cheap notebook computer

To be honest, I haven't owned a portable computer for ten years. It was a Dell with a 100Mhz Intel processor. A Dinosaur.

I discovered that people use the words netbook, notebook, sub notebook, tablet laptop, and laptop when describing a portable computer. It's confusing. To limit the problem you have to focus on the main features that are important to you.

Focusing on Features!

Price: Didn't want to spend much, maybe $300 US Dollars,,, maybe more.

Brand: Use to own an Acer desktop; it was inexpensive and lasted many years. Using Youtube I typed in the words "acer cheap notebook". The video above appeared.

Operating System: Prefer Windows XP or 7. Don't want Vista. Might try Linux for the experience and the lower price.

Sub Notebook Challenge

Video Comparisons

Here's a video showing four "sub notebooks"; the Acer Aspire One, ASUS Eee PC 901, HP2133, and the MSI Wind U100.

Note: I wish they had used the same operating system on each computer.  Easier to compare speed.

Shopping around...

If you're a technical person and able to load software to computers, you might want to check out Ebay for a great deal. I've had good luck finding used computers on Ebay, however, you are taking a chance.

I'll post the price range for the small notebooks I find... so far the prices look good!

Used Acer AOA-150 Price Range: $280 -$130. Anything below one hundred and thirty dollars is broken - needs repair.

Why the price difference? Good question. Here's the factors: Size of screen, hard drive, and memory. Is it missing cables, instructions, battery, or recovery disc? Is it a popular color? Does it have scratches and dings? For Ebay, does the seller have a bad feedback rating based on non-delivery of items?

Based on the information provided on the Acer Aspire One video and the associated Youtube comments, you should be able to buy a small notebook with a 9 inch screen, 1.6MHZ Intel Atom processor, Wi-Fi, 1 gigabyte of memory, 120GB hard drive, SD card & 5-in-1 media card reader, and three USB ports. For approximately $300, give or take $25. (US Dollars)

Note: The Acer Aspire One video is one year old. The technology and price is probably better... any comments or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
